Athmar Park
Athamr Park
Athmar Park is surrounded by Alameda Ave. to the north, Mississippi Ave. to the south, Federal blvd to the west and the South Platte to the east. Four Denver parks, Aspgren, Huston Lake, Vanderbilt Park and Habitat Park, sit within the limits of Athmar Park. The east half of the area is lower in elevation than the west, with a quick rise above the river starting near Pecos St. and enduring the slow climb in elevation in the direction of the southwest.
Historically, Athmar Park was annexed in sections by the City of Denver. In 1902 the east side of Athmar Park was annexed, beside with the town of Valverde, from Zuni to the South Platte rim. In 1932 the region west of Zuni was annexed by the City of Denver. The region west of the town of Valverde that had initially been in the hands of three different people was auctioned and bought by Thomas and John R. McCusker in 1946 and made into the neighborhood of Denver named “Athmar Park”.
