Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill

Inside Denver’s Capitol Hill region, is one of the most varied and diverse neighborhoods the city has. Within Broadway, Colfax, Downing and Sixth Ave., Capitol Hill is packed with so many different types of people everyone can find someone to relate to.
Situated just north of downtown Denver, its buildings have a appeal all their own because most of them were built in the 1920’s. On 10th and 11th St. on Sherman St., there is Poet’s Row, historic apartment compound all named after historic figures such as Robert Frost and Emily Dickenson. It is even more suitable considering Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac once lived on the hill.
Capitol Hill is next door to Cheeseman Park, a grassy spread that is just north of the area, though most consider it a Capitol Hill park. Stop by any afternoon, and the path that surrounds the park will be congested with runners and walkers.
Governor’s Park Bar & Grill is in a stable situation of spill over, particularly during happy hour, which everyone comes for. Charlie Brown’s right up the street is another local watering hole and preferred by the road-worn beat poets, Kerouac and Ginsberg. The 35-year-old piano bar shares a building with The Colburn Hotel, one of many spaces to reside on Capitol Hill. The Burnsley Hotel is one more choice, and is positioned across the street on 10th and Grant. If you don’t want the principle hotel stay- try the Capitol Hill Mansion Bed & Breakfast Inn, and in the dawn, walk over to Penn Street Perk, the only coffee shop in the neighborhood that threatens Starbucks’ fame.
